Children’s Summer Camp: 2022

The Musalaha Children’s Summer Camp 2022 continued the organisation's essential mission of fostering peace and mutual understanding during a time of persistent regional division. Bringing together approximately 85 children from Israeli-Jewish, Palestinian, and Gazan backgrounds, the five-day residential program provided a unique space for young people to move beyond societal labels. A particularly poignant addition to this year’s camp was the inclusion of a group of Ukrainian refugee children, who joined the reconciliation activities and were exposed to the efforts of local youth working toward peace. By living and learning together, these children from diverse backgrounds were able to humanise the "other" and build lasting relationships rooted in shared experiences.

The camp’s educational framework focused on teaching the biblical principles of reconciliation to the youngest and most vulnerable members of society. Through interactive workshops, sports, and crafts, campers explored themes of love, tolerance, and empathy. The leadership of the camp remained a core strength, as the activities were run by a dedicated team of counsellors and volunteers who are alumni of Musalaha’s previous programs. This cycle of mentorship not only ensures the sustainability of the organisation's work but also provides Palestinian and Israeli young adults with practical leadership training in a high-stakes, multicultural environment.

Despite the program's success, the 2022 camp faced significant logistical and facility-related challenges, including issues with pre-booked accommodations and shared site maintenance. However, the Musalaha team successfully managed these obstacles to deliver a program that left an indelible mark on its participants. With a curriculum designed to impact the perceptions and decision-making processes of the next generation, the camp remains a critical investment in the future of the land, empowering children to return to their communities as young ambassadors of reconciliation.
